Dean’s Message

AWSS Vision

To be the best Swimming Academy in the region.

AWSS Mission Statement
To empower lives by imparting life skills and creating job opportunities, to produce high-quality teachers with international accreditation and recognition; to raise the teaching standards of the swimming industry and to enhance the swimming industry by imparting proper handling and teaching skills for children through our very own Joey Lingo™ Program.

Hello Ladies and Gentlemen,

Henry Ford once said to his company men and women, “Coming together is a beginning, staying together is progress, and working together is success.” Another quote from Napoleon Hill, “It is literally true that you can succeed best and quickest by helping others to succeed.” Henry Ford, the father of the manufacturing dynasty FORD vehicles and Napoleon Hill, a renowned American self-help author back in the early 1900s, both had visions to succeed, and both knew the ways and means of achieving them, by engaging teamwork and empowering others to succeed.

My name is Isaac Lim, and I will have the honour of being the new Dean of AWSS. I have been a trainer of lifesaving for over 17 years all up, both pool and surf rescue in the land of Australia in Melbourne. I have also been a pool coach for around 10 years, running alongside a non-profit program for less fortunate and street kids in a neighbourhood. I went on to become a paediatric nurse at a prestigious paediatric hospital in Melbourne. Water is my passion and life even till today as I am an avid surfer and swimmer. I do have a kryptonite though, my backstroke is atrocious. Just throwing that in to illustrate to you that no one is perfect. Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses, but by working together, enhances our strength as a unit and can create a powerful force within a team setting.

My vision for the Dean’s role will aim to achieve the vision of the academy, and that is to facilitate an environment healthy for teaching and learning without fear of making mistakes or engaging one another at a professional level. We all make mistakes along the way and the key is to learn from it and moving forward. A good teaching school is one that has all teachers, coaches or trainers with the same mindset, same standards of teaching, and same expectations for students or trainees, and that is to be their best, as a person and as future coaches/ mentors. I will be looking into everyone’s strengths to enhance the ones who may need help, and to bring everyone onboard with a team mindset, but at the end of the day, I will not be able to do that if you are not willing to progress in that direction. I will also be building the team’s trust level in many ways by assuring you that this academy aims to become the best only because we have a strong unified team…a family.

So I urge you today, put your differences aside, help your fellow trainers, trainees, teachers and coaches to excel, and I guarantee you will succeed in more ways than just your career or job.

These are some points that I will instill and encourage all staff and members of AWSS, be it full time, part-time, casual, sub-contracted, coaches or students to observe closely so that we can work towards a happier, healthier and productive and successful workplace, OUR ACADEMY.

Respectful of one another regardless of status, age, capability or gender

Polite & Courteous

Professional Behaviour – Carry yourselves well

Always ready to listen

Always eager to grow

Approachable personality

Always ready to help

Standardization of imparting knowledge by following AWSS guidelines and procedures

Willingness to share professional knowledge and wisdom to better everyone in the Academy

A great leader is one than can allow oneself to come to any level of learning and understanding without pride, and the day we stop learning is the day we fail to progress in life.

On this note, I will be looking forward to working closely with you to achieve the best of you for the best of us at AWSS. My door is always open for all if you require to talk, be it about work, training or personal matters. Be safe and God bless.

Isaac Lim
Dean of AWSS & AWSS Alumni
