About AWSS

The Academy of Water Safety & Swimming (AWSS) is the premier institute that specializes in proven effective instructional technologies based on the fundamentals of swimming. AWSS courses impart skills that introduce non-swimmers to progressive swimming techniques and advanced life-saving strokes. AWSS graduates have mastered effective coaching skills to help their students learn better and faster with effective results. Graduates of AWSS hold Swim Australia™ Teacher (SAT) professional certificate which warrants their competency and knowledge in teaching swimming and water safety to independent learners of varying group sizes.

This certification is recognized not only by the Australia’s Federal Government but through its affiliation with the International Federation of Swimming Teachers Associations (IFSTA), Water Safety & Swimming teachers may apply for IFSTA recognition in the member countries which include the United Kingdom, Ireland, Holland, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Germany, and the United States to conduct and work as Water Safety & Swimming teachers in those countries. Graduates of AWSS are further trained in a proprietary child development and characteristic programme built by early childhood experts together with professional and seasoned Water Safety & Swimming teachers, known as Joey Lingo™. The programme focuses on helping babies and toddlers develop physical motor and coordination skills. Experts also believe that swimming techniques such as deeper breathing and familiarity with water exercises help children enhance mental development.

The Joey Lingo™ programme trains Water Safety & Swimming teachers to communicate these exercises effectively and helps build water confidence in a safe manner. AWSS provides a comprehensive programme to ensure graduates who complete the course possess pristine swimming coaching skills and are competent in training a wide range of students, from babies to adults.

Our trainers are all ASCTA appointed presenters who have been certified by ASCTA itself and possess at least 10 years of experience teaching swimming.

The entire course is made up of 6 modules which are expected to be completed over a span of 3 months. However, owing to class size limitations, the course could take up to 6 months for completion. These 6 modules will cover swimming skills, coaching skills, life-saving techniques, basic marketing skills and the proprietary child development and characteristic programme which helps children and young toddlers learn and apply swimming skills effectively, Joey Lingo™. Additionally, we also conduct other accreditations like Teachers of Learners with Disability. AWSS provides lots of Professional Development (PD) modules approved by ASCTA and SSA(Singapore Swimming Association) for the teachers’ continuous education. Pre-qualified swimming teachers will be able to skip up to a maximum of 4 modules if they possess the following certifications – Lifesaving, CPR, SAT Course and SAT B&T Course.

Other than being a freelance Water Safety & Swimming teacher, eligible graduates of AWSS are provided with the option to join affiliated swim schools. Alternatively, graduates can choose to be private Water Safety & Swimming teachers on the MantaPlay™ network, an e-platform that matches the Water Safety & Swimming teachers to suitable students. The MantaPlay™ platform also allows Water Safety & Swimming teachers to effortlessly track their swimming schedules and progress of their students
